How DLP technology improves printing accuracy

With the continuous development of 3D printing technology, Digital Light Processing, DLP) technology, as a high-precision printing method, is widely used in industrial manufacturing, medical treatment, jewelry design and other fields. Compared with the traditional FDM (Fused Deposition Modeling) and SLA (Stereolithography) technology, DLP technology has obvious advantages in printing accuracy. This paper will discuss the working principle of DLP technology and how to effectively improve the printing accuracy.

First, the basic principle of DLP technology

The core of DLP 3D printing technology is to use digital micromirror device (DMD) to control the projection of light source. This technology projects the image of the whole layer onto the liquid photosensitive resin through a projector and makes it cure at one time. This "face exposure" method is different from the "point scanning" of SLA, which not only improves the printing speed, but also significantly improves the molding accuracy.

Because DLP system uses high-resolution optical projection system, its pixel structure determines the smallest details of printing. Generally, the XY axis accuracy of DLP printers can reach micron level, which makes the surface of finished products smoother and richer in details.

Second, the key factors to improve printing accuracy

1. High resolution

The resolution of DLP printer is determined by the resolution and projection area of projector. For example, when a 1080p projector projects in an area of 50mm×30mm, the size of each pixel is about 20-30 microns, which means that very high printing accuracy can be achieved. In contrast, although SLA printers have high accuracy, they are limited by the accuracy and focusing ability of laser scanning, and it is difficult to achieve the uniformity of DLP.
  2. Good consistencyHow DLP technology improves printing accuracy(图1)

DLP adopts one-time overall exposure, which avoids the errors caused by different laser scanning paths in SLA. At the same time, because each layer is uniformly cured, the interlayer bonding is more uniform, and the deformation or dislocation caused by uneven local curing is reduced.

3. Support more complex structures

DLP technology is especially suitable for printing objects with complex geometric structure or fine texture, such as dental models, jewelry wax models, micro parts and so on. Because of its high precision, these products need little or no polishing and dressing in post-processing.

4. High equipment stability

The light source and optical system of DLP system are usually more stable and are not easily affected by mechanical vibration or environmental temperature changes, thus ensuring the repeatability and long-term stability in the printing process.

Third, the application prospect of DLP technology

At present, DLP 3D printing technology has been widely used in medical fields (such as customized dental molds and dentures), jewelry (wax mold making), microelectronics (micro-structure manufacturing) and other fields. With the development of materials science, more and more high-performance photosensitive resins are continuously introduced, which further broadens the application boundary of DLP technology.

tag

To sum up, DLP technology shows great potential in improving 3D printing accuracy with its advantages of high resolution, good consistency and being suitable for complex structures. It not only meets the demand for precision parts in industrial manufacturing, but also provides strong technical support for personalized customization and high-end manufacturing. With the continuous progress of technology and the gradual reduction of cost, DLP technology will occupy an increasingly important position in the future 3D printing market.
